Bill Summary

• Abolishes the Perpich Center for Arts Education effective June 30, 2018, while allowing current operations to continue until closure.

• Creates a new "Lola and Rudy Perpich arts education specialist" position within the Department of Education to provide statewide arts support services to school districts.

• Allows students enrolled in Perpich Arts High School or Crosswinds Arts and Science School during 2016-2017 to continue through 2017-2018, but prohibits new enrollments after that year.

• Requires the Perpich Center to submit proposals to the legislature by January 15, 2018, for conveying the real and personal property of both schools to school districts or nonprofit institutions; property transfers to the Department of Administration if no proposal is submitted.

• Transfers the Perpich Arts Library to the State Library Services Division and transfers all unexpended appropriations and dedicated funds to the general fund upon closure.
