Commissioner of health shall administer or contract for administration of a statewide tobacco quitline service to assist Minnesotans seeking help to quit using tobacco products.

Commissioner shall establish statewide public awareness activities to inform the public about service availability and encourage utilization due to dangers of tobacco use and dependence.

Services include telephone-based coaching and counseling, referrals, written materials mailed upon request, web-based texting or e-mail services, and free FDA-approved tobacco cessation medications.

Services must be consistent with evidence-based best practices in tobacco cessation and coordinated with employer, health plan company, and private sector tobacco prevention and cessation services.

Unspecified amounts appropriated from general fund to commissioner of health for fiscal years 2018 and 2019 to administer or contract for the quitline service.
