Board of Medical Practice authorized to issue limited licenses for international medical graduates to practice medicine in rural or underserved communities in primary care settings

Applicants must have at least one year of postgraduate clinical training in their country of medical education or five years of medical practice experience, plus three years of Minnesota residency prior to application

Limited licensees must practice only in primary care within their employer's setting under a collaborative agreement with physician supervision, which must define scope of practice and prescribing authority

Limited licenses expire after two years and may be renewed for an additional two years; after two years of rural or underserved practice, licensee may apply for unrestricted license

Licensees must notify the board within 30 days of employment changes with a new contract, or the limited license is immediately revoked; board may also immediately revoke for violation of section requirements
