Schools must administer state assessments to students during May of each school year, replacing the previous language allowing the commissioner to establish one or more months for testing.

State-constructed computer-adaptive reading and mathematics assessments must be administered annually to all students in grades 3 through 8, aligned with state academic standards and including multiple choice questions.

State-developed high school tests in subjects other than writing must be aligned with state academic standards, administered to all high school students, and include multiple choice questions.

Students in grades 8 through 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 or 2011-2012 school years may satisfy graduation requirements through alternative assessments including WorkKeys, Compass, ACT, or armed services vocational aptitude tests.

The amendment becomes effective for the 2018-2019 school year and later.
