Amends Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 160.232 to establish a trunk highway mowing reimbursement program for private persons performing mowing in trunk highway rights-of-way.

Requires the commissioner of transportation to calculate total maintenance cost savings from private mowing on trunk highways by January 1 each year.

Annually appropriates calculated savings from the trunk highway fund to the commissioner for maintenance reimbursement grants to mowing performers, with funds allocated equitably based on each recipient's mowing activity.

Maintains existing mowing restrictions for wildlife habitat: the first 8 feet from road surface may be mowed anytime; from August 31 to July 31, entire right-of-way may only be mowed for safety reasons at a height no less than 12 inches.

Becomes effective July 1, 2018.
