• School districts must include instruction in health curriculum for students in grades 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12 on substance misuse prevention, including opioids, controlled substances, and prescription and nonprescription medications, effective for the 2019-2020 school year.

• School districts and charter schools are encouraged to provide integrated substance misuse prevention instruction for grades 5 through 12 across existing programs and curricula.

• Commissioner of Education must provide substance misuse prevention information and assistance to districts and charter schools upon request, in consultation with the Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Section.

• $400,000 is appropriated in fiscal year 2019 to the For Jake's Sake Foundation to develop and promote comprehensive substance misuse prevention curriculum, train school staff, and evaluate effectiveness of prevention efforts.

• The grantee must submit a report by February 15, 2019 detailing expenditures, outcomes, and school districts implementing the substance misuse prevention curriculum, with the department retaining up to five percent of funds for grant administration.
