HF 3375 Summary

• Commissioner of Public Safety shall appoint members to the Task Force on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women by September 1, 2018, in consultation with the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council to advise the commissioner and report to the legislature on recommendations to reduce and end violence against indigenous women and girls.

• Task force must examine and report on systemic causes of violence against indigenous women and girls, data collection methods, policies and institutions impacting such violence, measures to address violence, and support measures for victims and communities.

• Task force membership shall include representatives from law enforcement, tribal governments, county attorneys, judges, health organizations, county coroners, Department of Health, nongovernmental organizations, and two indigenous women survivors of gender violence.

• Task force shall meet at least quarterly, annually elect a chair and vice-chair, and submit annual reports to legislative committees with jurisdiction over public safety, human services, and state government beginning February 15, 2019, and annually thereafter.

• Appropriation made from general fund to the Commissioner of Public Safety for fiscal year 2019 to implement the task force; task force expires June 30, 2024.
