Morrison County may convert the auditor-treasurer position from elective to appointive upon adoption of a county board resolution approved by at least 80 percent of board members.

Renville County may convert the recorder position from elective to appointive under the same 80 percent board approval requirement.

Wadena County may convert both the auditor-treasurer and recorder positions from elective to appointive with 80 percent board approval.

Any conversion requires two weeks of published notice, public comment opportunity, and allows voters to petition for a referendum within 60 days; a majority vote in favor is needed for implementation if a referendum occurs.

Incumbent elected officials must complete their current terms before any appointive structure takes effect, and counties may revert positions back to elective status after three years with 60 percent board approval and voter petition/approval process.
