School districts must make reasonable efforts to accommodate pupils excused from curricular activities for religious observance, effective for the 2018-2019 school year and later.

School boards must provide annual notice to parents regarding the district's policy on pupil absences for religious observance.

School districts generally cannot commence the school year before Labor Day, except for summer programs, flexible learning year programs, and learning year programs.

School districts may begin the school year before Labor Day if accommodating a construction or remodeling project of $400,000 or more, under an agreement with a qualifying district, or by agreement with an adjoining state school district.

School boards may consider community religious observances when adopting annual school calendars, effective for the 2018-2019 school year and later.
