State representatives cannot enter into contracts with private attorneys for lawsuits where the state is a party if attorney fees exceed the greater of $100,000 or 2 percent of the settlement amount.

Any contract contemplating attorney fees exceeding the greater of $100,000 or 2 percent of the settlement amount must be submitted to the Legislative Advisory Commission for approval.

The bill adds new section 15.4741 to Minnesota Statutes, chapter 15, establishing these limitations notwithstanding any other provision of law.
