Persons convicted of violating driving while impaired laws (section 169A.20) while operating snowmobiles or all-terrain vehicles are prohibited from operating these vehicles for one year.

Prohibition applies to persons who refuse to comply with lawful requests for chemical testing under implied consent laws.

Persons violating the one-year operating prohibition are guilty of a misdemeanor.

First-time impaired driving violators using off-road recreational vehicles or motorboats are subject only to criminal penalties and loss of operating privileges, not additional administrative penalties or license revocation provisions.

Effective date is August 1, 2018, for violations committed on or after that date.
