Persons convicted of violating driving while impaired laws (section 169A.20) while operating a snowmobile or all-terrain vehicle are prohibited from operating these vehicles for one year.

Persons who refuse to comply with lawful requests to submit to alcohol or drug testing while operating snowmobiles or all-terrain vehicles are subject to the same one-year operating prohibition.

The commissioner must notify affected persons of the time period during which they are prohibited from operating snowmobiles or all-terrain vehicles.

Operating a snowmobile or all-terrain vehicle during a prohibition period is a misdemeanor offense.

First-time impaired driving violators using off-road recreational vehicles or motorboats are subject only to criminal penalties and loss of operating privileges, not additional administrative sanctions like chemical use assessments or license revocation.
