Persons convicted of violating driving while impaired laws while operating snowmobiles or all-terrain vehicles are prohibited from operating these vehicles for one year.

Prohibition applies to those convicted under section 169A.20 or those who refuse to comply with lawful requests to submit to alcohol or drug testing.

Commissioner must notify persons of the time period during which they are prohibited from operating snowmobiles or all-terrain vehicles.

Administrative and judicial review of the operating privileges prohibition follows section 97B.066 (subdivisions 7-9) for first-time offenders without prior impaired driving convictions, otherwise governed by section 169A.53 or 171.177.

First-time DWI violators using off-road vehicles or motorboats are subject only to criminal penalties and loss of operating privileges, not other impaired driving sanctions like license revocation or chemical use assessment requirements.

Effective date is August 1, 2018, for violations committed on or after that date.
