Commissioner of corrections shall award a grant to Peace of Hope, Inc. to develop and implement the Peace of Hope Transit Rides pilot project from September 1, 2018, through August 31, 2020.

Pilot project expands current services to provide family transportation, reliable visitation processes, and support for families of offenders of all risk levels incarcerated in state correctional facilities.

Project goals include promoting family unity, providing companionship and life skills advice to family members, relieving stress in children of incarcerated persons, and decreasing offender recidivism.

Peace of Hope, Inc. must report to legislative committees on the development, implementation, impact, and outcomes of the pilot project by November 1, 2021.

$640,000,000 is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal year 2019 to the commissioner of corrections for the grant, available until expended.
