HF 4261 Summary

• Removes requirement that public information lists include party choice of voters who voted in the most recent presidential nomination primary.

• Allows counties to conduct presidential nomination primary elections by mail, following procedures in section 204B.45 as far as practicable.

• Removes requirement that voters state agreement with party principles at presidential nomination primary; eliminates associated felony penalty language for that statement.

• Clarifies that presidential nomination primary ballots must include party identification and allows parties to request uncommitted delegate options and write-in candidate lines by submitting requests to secretary of state no later than 63 days before the primary.

• Changes terminology from "sample ballots" to "example ballots" and adds requirements that public notices about the primary include information that voter's choice of political party ballot will be recorded and is public information.
