Repeals Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 471.9996, subdivision 2, which currently allows cities, counties, and towns to control rents on private residential property if approved by general election.

Eliminates the exception that permitted statutory or home rule charter municipalities to adopt ordinances, charter amendments, or laws controlling private residential rents with voter approval.

Removes the provision allowing voters in cities, counties, and towns to petition for rent control measures on private residential property.

Leaves the general prohibition on rent control in subdivision 1 intact while removing only the enumerated exception that previously allowed voter-approved local rent control.
