Repeals Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 471.9996, subdivision 2, which provided an exception to the state's rent control prohibition.

Eliminates the authority for statutory or home rule charter cities, counties, and towns to control rents on private residential property if approved in a general election.

Removes the provision allowing voters to petition for ordinances or charter amendments to implement rent control on private residential property.

Strengthens the statewide prohibition on rent control by eliminating the local exception that previously allowed communities to implement rent controls through voter approval.
