Appropriates $2,300,000 from bond proceeds to the Commissioner of Employment and Economic Development for a grant to the Mountain Iron Economic Development Authority to extend fiber optic infrastructure between Willow River and Pine City and between Cromwell and Aitkin.

Fiber optic infrastructure includes land, buildings, fiber optic cable, and endpoint hardware such as routers and switches, but excludes computers, telephones, and cameras.

Funding covers land preparation including demolition and hazardous remediation, predesign, design, acquisition, and installation of fiber infrastructure on publicly owned land or land with permanent easements lasting at least ten years.

Commissioner of Management and Budget shall sell and issue state general obligation bonds up to $2,300,000 in accordance with Minnesota Statutes sections 16A.631 to 16A.675 and the Minnesota Constitution.

Appropriation becomes available when the Commissioner of Management and Budget confirms sufficient resources have been committed to complete the project as required by Minnesota Statutes section 16A.502.
