Board of Medical Practice is authorized to require physicians who designate Minnesota as their state of principal license to submit to national criminal background checks conducted under section 214.075.

Criminal background check data shall be used only to evaluate physician eligibility for letters of qualification and shall not be shared with the Interstate Commission.

Physicians seeking expedited licensure in Minnesota who have not designated Minnesota as their principal license state are exempt from criminal background check requirements if their principal license state conducted a background check within the last 12 months.

Provisions of sections 214.17 to 214.25 apply to physicians licensed through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact when practice involves direct physical contact with patients.

Effective the day following final enactment.
