Commissioner of Education shall award two grants: one to an eligible organization serving underrepresented or disadvantaged girls in Ramsey County and one serving one or more counties in greater Minnesota.

Grant funds must be used to increase awareness and interest in STEM occupations, develop knowledge and confidence in STEM, and increase access to secondary, dual credit, and postsecondary STEM programs.

Grant funds may also provide financial assistance for child care, transportation, safe and stable housing, and other support to help underrepresented or disadvantaged girls balance education with work, job skills training, and family caregiving responsibilities.

Ramsey County grant recipient must develop a replicable model program for Twin Cities metropolitan area counties; greater Minnesota grant recipient must develop a replicable model program for other greater Minnesota counties.

Commissioner must submit written report to legislative committees by January 15, 2020 with program design, activities, expenditures, and outcomes disaggregated by race, cultural group, family income, age, grade level, school district, geographic location, migrant status, foreign immigrant status, home language, English learner status, disability, homelessness, and foster care status.
