Board of Teaching must issue an academic and behavioral strategist license to special education teachers meeting requirements established by board rule.

Licensed teachers are authorized to provide evaluation and specially designed instruction to students with disabilities from kindergarten through age 21 with mild to moderate needs in academics, behavior, social, emotional, communication, and functional performance.

Academic and behavioral strategist license is issued for a five-year term and is renewable according to Board of Teaching rules applicable to other professional five-year teaching licenses.

Continuing licensure requirements are amended to remove the previous requirement to hold or be recommended for licensure in autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, emotional or behavioral disorders, or learning disorders.

Candidates holding a valid academic and behavioral strategist license under existing rules at the time of enactment may apply for renewal under the new statutory framework.
