Amends Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 465.039 to authorize towns to appropriate funds to community food shelves, expanding existing authority previously limited to counties and cities.

Allows governing bodies of counties, home rule charter cities, statutory cities, or towns to appropriate annually from general funds or other unrestricted money to nonprofit organizations operating community food shelves.

Grants to nonprofits must support community food shelves that provide food to needy individuals without charge.

Amount of appropriation is determined annually by each local governing body.
