School boards may renew expiring referendums without a public election if the per-pupil amount remains the same and the renewal term does not exceed the original term approved by voters.

School board must adopt a written resolution authorizing renewal after holding a public meeting and allowing public testimony, with adoption required by June 15 and effectiveness 60 days later.

School boards may renew an expiring referendum no more than two fiscal years before the referendum expires, and must submit the resolution to the commissioner and county auditor by September 1.

Qualified voters may petition to revoke board-renewed referendum authority if the petition is signed by more than 25 percent of registered voters and filed by June 1 of that year.

A revocation referendum requires approval of 50 percent plus one of those voting to succeed and can revoke board-renewed revenue for the following fiscal year and years thereafter.
