Authorizes the Board of Medical Practice to conduct criminal background checks for physicians who designate Minnesota as their state of principal license under the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, using procedures specified in section 214.075.

Restricts use of criminal background check data to evaluating physician eligibility for letters of qualification and prohibits dissemination except as allowed by law.

Exempts physicians seeking expedited licensure in Minnesota who have not designated Minnesota as their principal license state if their principal license state completed a criminal background check within the last 12 months.

Amends Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 147.381 regarding application of Interstate Medical Licensure Compact to existing state laws.

Takes effect the day following final enactment.
