Vehicles transporting farm produce must prevent loads from escaping, except farmers and their agents transporting small grains, shelled corn, soybeans, or similar produce are exempt when amounts are small.

Vehicles carrying farm produce not covered by the farmer exemption that violate load securement requirements commit a petty misdemeanor.

Vehicles transporting sugar beets are permitted to leak water during transport.

Federal hours of service regulations do not apply to drivers engaged in intrastate transportation within 150 air miles from the commodity source or farm supply distribution point for agricultural commodities and farm supplies (March 15 to December 15) or sugar beets (September 1 to May 15).

Minnesota's planting and harvest period for federal hours of service purposes is defined as January 1 through December 31 of each year.
