School districts and charter schools may adopt plans allowing students to meet graduation requirements by demonstrating standards-aligned competency, regardless of classroom instruction time.

Students must still satisfy credit requirements under section 120B.024 and demonstrate understanding of academic standards to graduate from high school.

School districts must maintain graduation requirements that meet or exceed state graduation requirements established in law or rule.

Students ages 19 to 21 who have not yet graduated may be admitted to adult high school diploma programs under section 124D.52.

Effective date is the 2018-2019 school year and later.
