Increases the safe schools levy maximum from $36 to an amount to be determined (shown as blank in introduced version), multiplied by the district's adjusted pupil units.

Links a portion of the safe schools levy available for intermediate school districts to the school district per pupil allowance, calculated as the ratio of the current year safe schools allowance to the 2018 allowance, multiplied by $15 and adjusted pupil units.

Maintains nine eligible uses of safe schools levy funds including peace officer salaries, drug abuse prevention, gang resistance education, school security, mental health services, and facility security enhancements.

Requires school districts to initially attempt contracting with local police departments or county sheriffs for peace officer services before contracting with other law enforcement agencies.

Effective for taxes payable in 2019 and later.
