• Amends Minnesota Statutes section 609.63 to expand the definition of forgery by adding a new clause prohibiting the placement or possession of false labels or stamps on merchandise or supplies falsely representing that they have been tested, certified, or listed by a testing agency or laboratory or comply with state or municipal building codes or fire safety codes.

• Maintains existing forgery penalties: imprisonment for not more than three years or a fine of not more than $5,000, or both.

• Effective date is August 1, 2018, applying only to crimes committed on or after that date.
