Health plans covering prescription eye drops must not deny coverage for refills requested by insured persons, provided the original prescription indicated additional quantities were needed.

30-day refill supplies must be requested between 21 and 30 days from the original prescription distribution date or the most recent refill distribution date.

90-day refill supplies must be requested between 75 and 90 days from the original prescription distribution date or the most recent refill distribution date.

Refill requests cannot exceed the number of additional quantities indicated by the prescribing practitioner on the original prescription.

The requirement applies to all health plans providing coverage to Minnesota residents and is effective for plans offered, sold, issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2018.
