Required policy components include district communications with students, parents, guardians, teachers, and staff regarding student death notice.

Policy must address availability of grief counseling services for students affected by a student's death.

Policy must cover remembrances during graduation ceremonies or other school events and guidelines for physical memorials such as benches and trees.

Policy requirements are effective for the 2021-2022 school year and all subsequent school years.
