H.F. 3302 Summary

• Students in grade 8 during the 2020-2021 school year and later must pass required assessments in reading and mathematics to graduate from high school, effective July 1, 2020.

• Commissioner must develop a grade 10 reading assessment and grade 11 mathematics assessment as high school graduation requirements with passing scores determined for general students and English learners.

• Students with individualized education programs or 504 plans may satisfy graduation requirements by achieving individual passing scores determined according to commissioner guidelines.

• Students who fail the mathematics assessment may still graduate if they complete required coursework and credits, participate in district-prescribed remediation, and attempt at least two retests of the assessment.

• High school transcripts for students in grade 8 in 2020-2021 and later must record current pass status for each subject with a required graduation assessment.
