Eligible persons who had at least 20 years of service credit and were age 55 or older when their disability application was approved are entitled to duty disability benefits for up to 60 months.

Eligible persons must have applied for duty disability benefits between May 1, 2019, and January 15, 2020, and received approval from the Public Employees Retirement Association.

The 60-month benefit period begins on the date the duty disability benefit starts to accrue under Minnesota Statutes section 356.656, subdivision 10.

Any retirement annuity payments received prior to the effective date must be reclassified and characterized as disability benefit payments.

After the 60-month period expires, eligible persons are entitled to receive a retirement annuity under Minnesota Statutes section 353.656, subdivision 5a.
