Flying an unmanned aerial vehicle over state correctional facility airspace or grounds without commissioner of corrections consent is a misdemeanor offense.

Flying an unmanned aerial vehicle to record images (video or photographs) of a correctional facility or its grounds is a gross misdemeanor offense.

Flying an unmanned aerial vehicle to introduce or attempt to introduce non-contraband items into a correctional facility is a gross misdemeanor offense.

"Unmanned aerial vehicle" is defined as an aircraft operated without the possibility of direct human intervention from within or on the aircraft.

The law is effective August 1, 2020, and applies to crimes committed on or after that date.
