State fire marshal must require public and private schools and educational institutions to conduct at least five fire drills each school year, including at least one traditional evacuation drill.

Schools may implement alternative fire drills that do not require students to evacuate the premises, in addition to required evacuation drills.

Schools choosing to develop nonevacuating fire drill protocols must partner with the local fire chief and chief law enforcement officers or their designees.

Fire drill records must be posted and available for state fire marshal review, documenting the drill type (evacuation or nonevacuation), date, and evacuation time if applicable.

All doors and exits must remain unlocked from the inside of the building during school hours.
