Commissioner of public safety shall convene a 911 telecommunicator working group consisting of representatives from 12 organizations including police associations, sheriffs, fire chiefs, emergency services boards, and tribal dispatchers, with appointments required by July 1, 2020.

Working group must submit a report to legislative committees with public safety jurisdiction by January 15, 2021, containing recommendations for a statutory definition of 911 telecommunicators, minimum training and continuing education standards, and certification standards.

Report must also include recommendations for funding options for mandated 911 telecommunicator training and other recommendations the working group deems appropriate.

First meeting must be convened by the commissioner of public safety by August 1, 2020, with members electing a chair at that meeting; members serve without compensation and receive administrative support from the commissioner.

Working group expires January 15, 2021; section becomes effective June 1, 2020.
