Minnesota recognizes 11 federally recognized Tribal Nations in the state and affirms their right to existence, self-governance, and self-determination.

All state agencies must implement tribal consultation policies in consultation with Minnesota Tribal Nations and submit these policies to the Governor and Lieutenant Governor.

Each state agency must designate a tribal liaison responsible for tribal consultation implementation and serving as the principal point of contact for Minnesota Tribal Nations.

Prior to September 1 annually, agencies must consult with each Minnesota Tribal Nation to identify priority issues for inclusion in the governor's budget and legislative proposals by October 1.

All commissioners, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, and agency employees whose work impacts Minnesota Tribal Nations must complete Tribal State Relations Training (TSRT).
