Minnesota urges the President and Congress to designate a state funeral for the last surviving World War II Medal of Honor recipient as a symbolic honor to all World War II veterans.

Over 16 million Americans served in World War II, with fewer than 500,000 still alive and hundreds dying every day.

The Medal of Honor is the nation's highest military award for valor, granted for "gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty."

The resolution requests the recipient be offered the option to lie in state in the rotunda of the United States Capitol.

Minnesota's Secretary of State is directed to transmit copies of this memorial to the President, Congress leadership, and Minnesota's federal representatives.
