School districts must pay the cost of college entrance exams (ACT or SAT) one time for interested students in grades 11 or 12 who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals, effective for the 2019-2020 school year and later.

Districts must administer the exam at the student's high school during the school day and allow students to take it during any of multiple exam administrations available in the district.

If a district administers only one of the two tests (ACT or SAT) and an eligible student chooses the other test instead, the student may take it at a different time or location and remains eligible for the examination fee reimbursement.

Districts may require students not eligible for free or reduced-price meals to pay the exam cost, but must waive the cost for any student unable to pay.

An unspecified amount from the general fund is appropriated to the Commissioner of Education for fiscal years 2020 and 2021 to reimburse school districts for college entrance examination costs.
