SF2919 Summary

• Adds new definition of "athletic training" to Minnesota Statutes section 148.7802 that includes prevention, wellness, emergency care, examination, assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention for emergent, acute, and chronic injuries within the athletic trainer's education scope.

• Modifies section 148.7806 to require athletic trainers to perform services under the direction of, on prescription of, or in collaboration with a primary physician licensed to practice medicine in Minnesota, rather than only at primary employment sites.

• Expands athletic trainer scope to treat patients beyond athletes and allows evaluation and treatment of any patient not previously diagnosed for up to 30 days or as designated by the primary physician.

• Changes terminology throughout Minnesota Statutes sections 148.7801 to 148.7815 from "athlete" or "individual" to "patient" to reflect expanded practice scope.

• Repeals prior definitions of "athlete" and "athletic injury" in section 148.7802, subdivisions 4 and 5.
