Appropriates $442,500 from the general fund in fiscal year 2021 to the commissioner of natural resources for monitoring, modeling, testing, pit wall stability studies, surveys, planning, and design work to mitigate rising water levels at Canisteo and Hill Annex legacy mine complexes.

Appropriates $442,500 from the Minnesota 21st Century Fund in fiscal year 2021 to the commissioner of employment and economic development for transfer to natural resources for the same mitigation work at Canisteo and Hill Annex complexes.

Appropriates $2,000,000 from bond proceeds to the commissioner of natural resources for predesign, design, and engineering to construct mitigation projects at Canisteo and Hill Annex complexes, with unused funds available for similar work in other taconite assistance area mine complexes.

Authorizes the sale and issuance of state bonds up to $2,000,000 to provide funding from the bond proceeds fund.

All appropriations are one-time only and available until June 30, 2023, with priority given to work addressing the most immediate public safety risks.
