Appropriates $500,000 from the general fund to the Department of Education in fiscal year 2021 for a grant to Sourcewell in Staples.

Grant funds support creating a coordinated regional model to identify, recruit, and support potential teachers, including teachers of color and American Indian teachers, and to address barriers to entering the teaching profession.

Grant may be used to provide high school students opportunities to explore education careers in high-need areas while earning transferable college credits.

Grant supports increasing capacity of local colleges and universities to develop and sustain teacher preparation programs and elevating the teaching profession in high-need regional areas.

Appropriated funds do not cancel and remain available until June 30, 2023.
