• The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension superintendent shall investigate all peace-officer-involved deaths occurring in Minnesota, defined as deaths resulting from a peace officer's use of force while on or off duty performing law enforcement duties.

• The superintendent must file investigative reports with the county attorney where the death occurred and the chief law enforcement officer of the employing agency.

• When a Bureau of Criminal Apprehension officer is the subject of the investigation, the county sheriff where the death occurred shall conduct the investigation instead.
