Amends Minnesota Statutes section 573.02 to allow civil actions for death caused by a peace officer to be commenced at any time after the death of the decedent, removing the previous three-year statute of limitations.

Defines peace officer according to section 626.84, subdivision 1, paragraph (c), as the relevant standard for this extended timeline.

Maintains existing three-year limitations periods for deaths caused by professional negligence and other wrongful acts, with an additional six-year outer limit measured from the date of the act or omission.

Becomes effective the day following final enactment and applies retroactively to all causes of action arising before the effective date, including those where the limitations period has not yet expired.
