Expands Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 609.2232 to apply to inmates at both state and local correctional facilities, not just state prisons.

Requires consecutive sentencing for inmates convicted of assault (sections 609.221, 609.222, 609.223, 609.2231, or 609.224) committed while confined, with sentences running consecutively to any unexpired portion of earlier sentences.

Prohibits inmates from receiving credit against assault sentences for time already served on earlier sentences.

Mandates that state prison inmates serve assault sentences in state correctional facilities regardless of whether the assault conviction is for a misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor.
