Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board must develop learning objectives for preservice and in-service autism training by January 1, 2022, covering autism overview, de-escalation strategies, crisis reduction models, and available tools and technology.

Board must consult with individuals with autism, family members, autism experts, and peace officers when developing the learning objectives.

Autism training learning objectives must be included in the required curriculum for all professional peace officer educational programs, with eligibility for the peace officer licensing examination after July 1, 2022 contingent on completion.

Beginning July 1, 2022, law enforcement agencies must provide in-service autism training to all peace officers and part-time officers, consisting of at least four continuing education credits within a three-year licensing cycle.

Law enforcement agencies must maintain records of compliance with training requirements subject to periodic board review, and the board may impose licensing sanctions or seek injunctive relief for non-compliance; an unspecified amount is appropriated from the general fund to POST Board for fiscal year ending June 30, 2021.
