HF21 Summary

• Creates a Mining and Related Industry Additional Unemployment Benefits Program providing supplemental benefits from Minnesota's unemployment insurance trust fund to workers laid off from iron ore mining employers or employers providing goods/services to iron mining companies.

• Applicants must have established a benefit account with at least 50% of wage credits from iron ore mining or related employers, exhausted all available state and federal unemployment benefits, and meet standard unemployment benefit eligibility requirements.

• Maximum additional benefit is 26 weeks of payments at the applicant's regular weekly unemployment benefit rate, available through the week ending May 1, 2021.

• Benefits paid under this program are not charged to future employer tax rates or to government and nonprofit employer reimbursing accounts.

• Applicants already receiving federal unemployment benefits or Trade Readjustment Assistance are ineligible for these additional benefits.
