School districts may employ short-call substitute teachers who meet professional requirements under Minnesota Statutes section 122A.181, subdivision 2, without meeting standard licensing requirements in chapter 122A.

Each assignment for a short-call substitute teacher to replace a teacher of record may last no longer than 15 consecutive school days.

School districts must report all short-call substitute teachers employed under this provision to the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board in the form and manner determined by the board.

Districts must affirm that each short-call substitute teacher meets the required professional qualifications.

The provision is effective for the 2020-2021 school year only.
