Health plans must cover the full cost of vitamin D testing when a plan enrollee requests it.

Testing may be performed in a hospital, clinic, independent laboratory, or through a home test.

Plan enrollees may request coverage for vitamin D testing up to twice per year, unless a health care provider determines more frequent testing is medically necessary.

The requirement becomes effective the day after final enactment and applies to all existing health plans and those offered, issued, or renewed for Minnesota residents on or after the effective date.
