Appropriates $500,000 from the arts and cultural heritage fund to the commissioner of education in fiscal year 2022 for a water safety grant program.

Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations and city and county parks and recreation programs that provide swimming lessons to youth.

Grant funds must primarily support scholarships for low-income and at-risk children to take swimming lessons.

Up to 15 percent of grant funds may be used to hire or train water safety instructors and lifeguards in nationally recognized water safety practices.

Appropriation is available until June 30, 2023.
