Commissioner of health shall conduct a study in consultation with the commissioner of human services and relevant stakeholder groups on ways to address obesity in individuals with intellectual disabilities, examining behavioral, environmental, and systemic factors including high-calorie diets, lower physical activity, psychotropic medication use, limited exercise opportunities, and lack of targeted dietary and lifestyle advice.

Study shall include options for tracking obesity data among this population, identifying barriers to effective weight management, designing health promotion activities and dietary strategies, developing communication strategies on health risks and benefits, and training opportunities for health care providers.

Commissioner shall submit recommendations to chairs and ranking minority members of legislative committees with jurisdiction over health care policy and finance by February 15, 2022.

An unspecified amount from the general fund is appropriated in fiscal year 2022 to the commissioner of health for conducting the study, designated as a onetime appropriation.
